12. The Vatican's New Stance Toward Gays and Divorcees

This article talks about a very interesting yet shocking change in the views of the Catholic Church towards gay marriage and divorces. The author makes it clear that they still do not accept these things as being right. They still do not want to start holding same-sex-marriage ceremonies as the author quotes from the report of the Vatican meeting, they say there are "moral problems connected to homosexual unions and affirms the sanctity of marriage between men and women."  The church is still with the same stance "against gay marriage," but now presents more lenience to them saying they want to create commnities "capable of providing [a welcoming home], accepting and valuing their sexual orientation, without compromising Catholic doctrine on the family and matrimony." This is a big step from the previous ways they reacted against gays. Now about divorce, the recent report says "what needs to be respected above all is the suffering of those who have endured seperation and divorce unjustly." The church seems to sympathize more for the divorced people than before as shown on previous events that "one cannot give into the divorce mentality."
The author was surprisingly effective in transmitting what he wanted to transmit with this article. This is a subject that is a big topic of debate in the Christian community and this article explains well how significant this change is. He gives us the before and after situations with primary source quotes that is the best evidence for the reader to believe. The quotes from the different reports are effective tools for the interest of the article and they make it believable and true.
