3. "A Man and His Cat"

Having a pet now seems to be simply a way of getting rid of one's solitude. Yet, many pet owners can claim that, although it does somewhat  rid the solitude of someone, having a pet brings much more than that. The common pets of people today are cats and dogs. These playful creatures give the owner a sensation that the pet cares for the owner as much as he cares for the pet. However, is that really true? It is not even clear if animals have a conscious or have feelings to act such way. The amount of money Americans invest on their pets is exaggerated and unnecessary; they waste as much money on their pets as on themselves! Thus, a debatable question comes up whether pets have such substantial influence on pet owners.
The author, Tim Kreider, uses the first person language throughout the entire article. He starts his article using a personal experience of him and his cat and uses informal language which made it seem like a dialogue with the author. He was very effective in his introduction as he engaged the reader by getting the readers to feel empathy with him. Throughout the rest of his article, the author comes to use a more formal language in explaining his point of view on pets. He uses good evidences and refers to all the places he got the information. He uses elaborated sentences that, although not informal, was not hard to understand at all. In the conclusion the author was very effective on giving a final concrete stand to his point of view which gave his article a strong argument with good evidences. Throughout the article, the author seemed confident and bold with his point of view which gave the article more credibility and consideration. The author was very expressive in his article which helped get the readers engaged throughout the whole article.
