#5 The Rise of the Narco-Saints

This article talks about a new religion or a new religious trend that has been growing impressively in North America, especially in Mexico. This new trend follows a new made saint, called a Santa Muerta which is not a common saint you would see anywhere. This "saint" is a mixture of the popular more common Virgin Mary with the defamed grim reaper. This saint's appearance is not a pleasant one giving ideas of death to people who see it. Then, why choose to "follow" this saint instead of the others? The author does a really good job of showing why this saint has grown so popular these days in North America. It tells how people believe this saint has a faster response to prayers and performs numerous miracles. People say this saint "listens to everyone," even those who do  not deserve it. She will answer people's prayers, even if it is not really a right moral request.
The author does a really good job of writing and transmitting what he wanted to write about. The subject really interested me and it was a very easy flowing article. The author does a good job of first introducing what it is and then telling us why people would want to follow it (why it got so popular in such a short period of time). He then quotes some specialists that give evidence of why it is appealing to people. He says the Santa Muerta helps solve legal problems and can answer not -so- right requests like, shipping in a ton of meth into a state. The author is successful and it was a good reading for myself.
