#9 Americans Won't Relax, Even Late at Night or on the Weekend

The author talks about how people are increasingly spending more time working than in previous years. The article tells us how the percentage of American people work between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., the time when they should be resting, sleeping, or socializing. He emphasizes the Americans, he proves that the Americans are the ones suffering from this excess of work hours. People are working more on weekends and in very late hours of the day. The average hour of work of the people in the U.S. per year is 200 more hours than France, the Netherlands, and Denmark.  The author blames the technology for all this increase of work. Technology makes work more accessible from home and this is a main reason why work is now occupying so much more time of workers' lives. The author says there are two setbacks in this culture that is developing: less of a social life and possible worse health conditions. He quotes an economist that says that people in America are working more to gain less these days.
The author is successful in transmitting what he wants to transmit. He uses good use of example and credible statistics. THe author does a good job in first introducing the topic and then going into the details. THe pace of the writing is easy going and it is easy to keep up with all he presents to us. The easy numbers really help prove what his thesis is.
